Frugal Friday - Baseball

In honor of my lil' brother playing his last MIAA confernce tournament this weekend, this FF post is all about baseball! Growing up my family was obsessed with baseball. We split season tickets to the Royals for years. I also recall spending many of my birthday's at the state tournament for my brother Alex, who has gone on to pitch for the UCM Mules.  It's his senior year and it's strange to realize I won't be able to watch him play again.

So, here's Kansas City baseball frugal style:

KC Royals- Kauffman Stadium or The K.  It's part of my childhood forsure, but it's become a hot spot especially after the last couple years of rennovations.  It now houses a new HD Scoreboard, 39,000 seats, fountain view terraces, Hall of Fame exhibit, and a brand new little 'K'!

Bases Loaded 4 pack $60 you get $40 to use on food or merchandise inside the stadium

Jackson County Residents get 1/2 off any ticket on certain days

Sign your kids (under 14) up for the Blue Crew!  It's only $20 and comes with a TON of cool stuff valued well over what you pay!  This would be a perfect spring birthday gift too!
-Jersey & Hat
-2 tickets to Royals game
-KC Zoo pass
-vouchers for the little K and tons more!

Kaffman Stadium also offers tours where you can visit the Royals dugout and visitor's locker rooms! There are many different tour packages ranging from $10/adult to $250! Birthday packages

TBones- Kansas City's independent professional baseball team plays out by the Legends shopping center.
The best seat in the place is only $16 or you can sit out in the grass for $6.  There are also picnic tables that seat 6 for $45.  It's a fun ball park with a lot of fun things to do, including a playground where parents can still see the game while their kids play!

Did you Know?
In 1945, Major League Baseball’s Brooklyn Dodgers recruited Jackie Robinson from the Kansas City Monarchs. Robinson became the first African-American in the modern era to play on a Major League roster.  (taken from NLBM.com)
If you're interested in more of Kansas City's baseball history, check out the Negro League Museum.  Admission for adults is $8 and kids under 5 are free! Exhibit Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 9:00 am–6:00 p.m., Sunday NOON–6:00 p.m.

Get out there and enjoy the summer baseball options KC has to offer!

Hi, I'm Leah and I'm an addict. {part one}

My mind is racing, my heart is pounding; my emotions are through the roof, I need to hear that sweet sound of an ice cold soda can popping open.  WAIT.  I am not evening thristy.  I definitely don't need more calories- so what's wrong with me?

Hi, my name is Leah and I am addicted to Dr. Pepper.  I am now suffering from adrenal exhaustion attributed to caffeine toxicity.

I have been so exhausted lately.  Yes, I have three kids and yes, I watch other's kids throughout the day- but more exhausted than I should be.  I am exhausted because my only source of energy is a fake.  I use sugar and caffeine to get me though every morning, mid-morning, lunch hour, afternoon and evening.  5 cans of Dr Pepper a day is killing me.  But for some reason, I didn't mind until I saw the 16 pound weight gain in 2 months.  That makes me sick.

I am not going to lie and say "I won't drink a dr pepper again" because as I type this my mind is racing and reminding myself that those hot dr peppers in the pantry can get to my perfect drinking temperature if I stick them in the freezer for 7mins.  I know I will have one or two today.  but TODAY, I am going to start becoming less ignorant of how this sugar and caffeine intake affects my health.

Weekly Goal:
  1. Learn how my health is affected and work through my cravings without giving in every time.
  2. Cut down to 2 Dr. Pepper's a day. (was at 5/day, currently 3/day)

Apparently, I'm not alone . . .
